Unfortunately,
many older history books and maps are getting harder
for the public to access. SharingHistory.com
was formed to offer CDs containing scanned images of public-domain publications.
We locate and scan
hard-to-find books, maps, and images, and put them on CDs as HTML webs,
so that you can view them with a web
browser.
Our
growing inventory of scanned books will focus on:
-
the Sierra Nevada counties,
and
the events and industries that shaped their early history,
-
the
California Gold Rush, and gold mining technology in general,
-
early
water and power development,
-
US
scenic regions and parks,
-
the
"picturesque" travel books of the late nineteenth century,
-
railroad
and travel guides for the US and the UK,
-
US
local histories and city guides,
-
US
world fairs before 1920,
-
naval
and nautical history, and
-
other
items to tickle or intrigue you.
CDs
containing scanned books and maps are being developed by individuals and
small companies throughout the US and the UK. And a large number
of scanned books have been made available on the Internet by
universities and public libraries. To aid your history
or genealogy research, we provide a list of links to other
sources of digitally-imaged books, maps, and photos.
We partner with libraries, museums,
and historical societies who will scan rare or unique items in their archives.
We can assist the scanning effort, and we use the scanned images to
produce BookWebCDs for sale in museum stores and on the Web.
Partnering and
profit-sharing with SharingHistory.com can provide ongoing revenues for
the partnering institution or society. Compilations of archive
materials onto CD can be used to support and enhance museum exhibits,
and the CDs make attractive membership premiums. Please contact
us if your organization might benefit from such a partnership.
We
also seek to partner with individuals or businesses that have books,
maps, and photos of interest to amateur and
professional historians. Again, please contact
us if you have such items and would consider partnering with
SharingHistory.com.
Come
back often, and see what we find to share!
