This CD contains the page images and searchable text from a six-volume collection of lithographs of noble estates in England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. In an eight-color glory that was the peak of lithography at the time of publication, the Picturesque Views of Seats... provided exterior views of the most sumpuous 240 country estates in Great Britain and Ireland. The work was issued in parts by subscription between 1864 and 1880. In addition to the vivid lithographs, the publishers provided brief histories of the estates and their families. In 1880, the entire work was published in a six-volume bound set, comprising 234 color plates, six title-pages with color vignette views, and 500 pages of text. (Estate location maps were created for this BookWebCD from contemporary maps of England & Wales, Scotland, and Ireland published by Adam & Charles Black of Edinburgh.) See the List of Engravings.
