The Sacramento, California, Daily “Record-Union.”
Sacramento Through the Camera.
Souvenir of the Capital of California. Sacramento City and County as seen through the Camera. Typical Illustrations of the Heart of Semi-Tropic California in the midst of her most superb valley region.
Compiled by W. H. Bryan. (1901)

This CD contains the page images and searchable text from a 98-page photo-illustrated booster book published by the leading Sacramento daily newspaper, the Record-Union, in 1901 to tout the beauties, prosperity, and enterprises of this valley county. It begins with a 12-page description of the healthful climate, population, industries, and cheery prospects of the Sacramento region.

The following 83 pages of sepia photographs include local landmarks, businesses (retail stores, breweries, banks, hotels), churches, hospitals, schools, street views, and the homes of prominent families. Also included are photos of the shops and internal workings of major businesses, including Southern Pacific Company. And proudly pictured are the dam, canal, powerhouse, transmission lines, and downtown distribution substation of the City's new electric utility, the Sacramento Electric, Gas and Railway Company.

Also included on this CD is a Bird's Eye View of Sacramento (circa 1900), in 36 panels. This panorama was also published by the Record-Union, and it features small engraved views of many of the buildings pictured in Sacramento Through the Camera.
