This CD contains the page images and searchable text from four paperback guides published a century ago by the Northern Pacific Railway to encourage travel on its northern transcontinental line.
In 1883, the NPRR began rail service to Yellowstone, providing luxurious coach travel and hotels for America's first generation of wilderness tourists.
That year, NPRR began a 25-year advertising campaign which presented the varied natural wonders of Yellowstone as "Wonderland".

The four books on this CD are the annual travel guides for 1888, 1893, 1894, and 1895, entitled "Wonderland".
These guides describe the sights and history along the NPRR route and provide information on travel options and Yellowstone Park accommodations. In a series of topical articles, editor Olin D. Wheeler provides vivid travel narratives, and tells of the scenery, peoples, and history of the lands along the rail route from the old to the new Northwest.
In some articles, Wheeler describes the railway's locomotive, cars, and services. In others, he takes the reader on a word journey over the wonder-filled countryside, tells of local histories and the lives of both the natives and white settlers, and describes adventures available at various stops along the railway. Accompanying the text are dozens of halftone illustrations.
